PAUL MOONEY - RACE

Click Cover to Download

I grew up on this album. My mother had this in the tape deck for 6 years. This is what me, my sister, and mother would knock when she dropped us off at Catholic school. Mooney's race analysis is second to none. Download this classic comedy album and peep Paul Mooney's analysis below.

Oh yeah, I even sampled this album for The Nas Remixes. Check the last 50 seconds of the song, "Black Zombie (Nick James Remix)" below.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE SCORE

I had this on my desktop and thought someone might think it was interesting. This isn't the soundtrack, it is the score of the movie. The score is somewhat dark, euphoric, and ambient so if you like that stuff or archive any and everything digital like me, download it.

SA- RA - MELODEE N MYNOR

Click Cover to Download

I love Sa-Ra for many reasons; their style of music, crazy outfits, philosophy, afrocentricity, etc. Sometimes though, their music can get a bit busy and hectic. The utilize a lot different rhythms and melodies in every song it is easy to be a bit lost while listening to some of their music. Everything is complex and layered. "Melodee N Mynor" is a song that is subtle and smooth and demonstrates their range as musicians. The soft trumpets remind me of Miles Davis Quiet Nights

MY BOY D-ROSS

Aside from being the best barber I ever had, D-Ross (Brother of my patna for life James "Sugaman" Ross) can spit for real. He just shot me this video. I've been in the Rich (Richmond, CA) lately so it's good to see spots I go to, especially RYSE Youth Center. Anyway, support D he is a good brother grinding hard. Furthermore, certain shots in this video is straight comedy.

Check him out on the Wake Up Show. He is thorough.

THE DEMOCRATS NEED PSA'S LIKE THESE

I remember this guy as a kid. This series was on of my favorite ad campaigns ever. He is hilarious yet the message is perfect. As we are on the eve of passing a health care bill that took forever and loss substance through the process, the democrats seriously needed to frame the importance of health care and the decrepit state of our system. Imagine this guy ranting about his poor health, no one having health care, or how you still get the short end of the stick when you have it.

The video below is a message to Obama. The rate of spending by Bush and Obama is simply unnacceptable. Afganistan is the quagmire of all quagmires and we stand to lose trillions for nothing amidst  the worst recession since the great depression. If "they say why, why? Tell'em that it's human nature." Thanks Mike.

The videos below are for kicks. Enjoy. The last video is the Dennis Leary MTV commercials that ranks amongst my all time favorites as well.

GET SOME SHUGGIE IN YOUR LIFE

I was going vinyl for vinyl with my boy Aaron Nakai last night and he pulled out the Shuggie Otis after we did a samba set. I immediately thought about sampling Shuggie, but before I do that, enjoy Shuggie. This is his best record in my opinion. His Bill Withers-esq voice coupled with unique rhythms and sounds you still hear being utilized in music today is what makes him such an interesting artist. It's a trip that he never really blew up. While listening, you should be able to hear where contemporary artists such as Maxwell, D'Angelo, and Raphael Saadiq have benefited from coming after an artist like Shuggie Otis. I think he was ahead of his time.

HIP-HOP IS AMAZING RIGHT NOW

So I post the Madvillian and leave the house for a few hours to go pick my friend up from the airport and when I get home I find this! The quality of music being put out recently has prompted me to create artwork for my posts. I took too long to make this image and the Madvillain banner but I digress. Here is a new Reflection Eternal track that features J. Cole, Mos Def, and Jay Electronica. Jay's verse is cut off because it's a radio rip but you still will enjoy it!

MADVILLAIN IS TO DIE FOR

If you know me or want to know me, understand I'm a huge Madvillian fan. This is a leak off their new album. I have no idea when it's dropping but this song is so good I could wait forever for it to drop. When Lib and Doom come together, only classic material is produced. Madlib is easily my favorite producer. His ability to craft gritty yet colorful tracks is something I always try to emulate. Also, Doom drops quotables on this track. Check the very first bars of the song:
Heard it first from the half paid major of machine drawn too sterilized, gloves clean. For the love of green, black and red, in no particular order like a smack in the head."

You must love it when an artist sets up an antiquated pro capitalism reference and throws pro-blackness all on top of it. I wonder if Doom knows he is a genius. Mos Def does (CLICK).

CLASSIC CHRISTMAS ALBUM

Posted: Wednesday, December 9, 2009 | | Labels: , , , , 0 comments

I grew up on this album.  This isn't just a Christmas album, it's a classic jazz album! Vince Guaraldi never had a more successful project than this one but when you create a relic; you never have to do anything else in my opinion. The Free Experience gladly provides you this masterpiece. Go get some coco because Oakland is freezing right now. Oh yeah, while knocking this.

Peep my favorite character after the jump.

LEFTOVERS GALORE PT. 2 | MADE YOU LOOK

Made these on Fruity Loops back in the day right after I remixed Jay-Z's Black Album. If you are wondering why one of the Nas songs and Jay-Z remixes both have Stevie Wonder samples, it is because I made about 5 songs for Chinaka Hodge using Stevie Wonder samples as a Kawanza gift 5 years ago. True story. These both were made in 2004. I guess I'm getting old for not remembering the correct years. Geeze. Side note, I used the breakdown of "Between the Sheets" before Just Blaze did it for "Ignorant Shit." Ha
